Champions
Leeds United, champions of 2019/20 — a Marcelo Bielsa print made to give promotion-season catharsis some ceremony, with a lockdown coda of El Loco portraits.
About the Project
Leeds United, EFL Champions of 2019/20 — and, briefly, the only thing in football that made any sense before the world lurched sideways.
The piece ran in The Square Ball's Campeón Special, a 228-page celebration of the title-winning season that Eamonn put together beautifully.
The print is available here. Like almost everything I make, it started life on an iPad and then got dramatically overcommitted.
Lockdown appendix
Folded in at the end is a short run of Marcelo Bielsa portraits I drew during lockdown, when the Championship was suspended and sketching El Loco felt like a reasonable substitute for watching him actually prowl a touchline. As it turned out, a global respiratory pandemic and a Championship season are not especially compatible.
They sit slightly outside the Campeón piece, but they belong to the same strange weather: too much waiting, no football, and an iPad as the only studio left once the world decided to stay indoors for a while.

Sequence note
The closing plates are intended to read like a print-room pass: object, surface, and image held in sequence rather than treated as isolated uploads.
