David Villa
An unpublished David Villa commission, kept in the archive as a record of the work rather than any endorsement of its subject.
About the Project
Commissioned for an article on David Villa's spell at New York City FC, but never published — allegations of workplace abuse made any continued use of the image inappropriate.
It stays in the archive as a record of the work itself, not as a celebration of the person depicted.
The distressed surface under the portrait came from an old oil painting I had left unvarnished for years; the damaged texture ended up becoming part of the final image.
